Less Landfilling – More Energy. In Vienna, waste does not pose a problem but is used as a source of energy for generating heat and electricity. The the Pfaffenau waste incinerator, clean energy is generated from 250,000 tonnes of residual waste annually. Since 2009, there has been a ban on the landfilling of residual waste in Austria.

The Pfaffenau waste incinerator generates electricity for approximately 25,000 households and heat for 50,000 households annually.
