The winner of the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge 2014 is the City of Santa Monica‘s Wellbeing Project. It be be summed up in three words: Define. Measure. Act. Santa Monica aims to define wellbeing as it relates to their community. They plan to measure ‘wellbeing’ in their community. Plan is to guide city policies, decisions and allocation of resources to intentionally improve conditions for people to thrive.
At the core of The Wellbeing Project is development of the Local Wellbeing Index, a dynamic measurement tool that will provide a multidimensional picture of the community’s strengths and challenges across key elements of wellbeing (economics, social connections, health, education & care, community engagement, and physical environment).
By the way: what is ‘wellbeing’?
Personal satisfaction with life, influenced by social connections, economic stability, personal safety, physical surroundings, fulfilling employment, civic engagement, and health (aka ‘wellness’).
In short, everything that makes life worthwhile.
