Located along the main pathway towards the Dazaifu Tenmangu, one of the most important shrines in Japan, this eye-catching coffee shop uses a unique system of weaving thin strips of wood to harmonize with the local vernacular of its modest surroundings. The building is made of 2,000 diagnonally woven wooden pieces of varying length that work together to produce a striking bird’s nest effect. The diagonal pattern brings a sense of direction and fluidity to the space.
